Renown Chinese sexologist Zhang Beichuan, whose latest survey found that 80 percent of the women in marriages with gay men said they had been "seriously harmed", has called for gay men not to be bound to traditional marriage values.
A number of support groups such as the Tongqi Association (同妻联合会) and Pink Space Sexuality Research Centre in Beijing now exist to support women who are married to gay men and are struggling to cope.
